Kitui County has joined forces with KCB Bank in a groundbreaking public-private partnership aimed at empowering local youth. Under a shilling-for-shilling initiative, both entities will each contribute Sh20 million, forming a Sh40 million fund to equip young people with essential vocational skills.
The program, integrated into the county’s 2025/2026 budget framework, will benefit 1,500 youths across all 40 wards. Through the KCB 2jiajiri initiative, participants will receive training in trades such as masonry, plumbing, welding, carpentry, and mechanics, fostering both employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

A key component of the initiative ensures that at least 40% of the trainees will receive startup tools upon completing their training, giving them a head start in their respective trades. This provision is designed to support self-sufficiency and economic resilience among the county’s young workforce.

The partnership was unveiled during a meeting between Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe and KCB Bank Managing Director Annastacia Kimtai. Their discussions underscored a shared commitment to youth empowerment and support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), reinforcing the importance of skills development in driving economic growth.
