Kitui County Assembly Members (MCAs) have reaffirmed their commitment to impeaching Speaker Kelvin Kinengo Katisya, citing accusations of corruption and dictatorial leadership. Led by Minority Chief Whip Hon. Sylvester Munyalo, the MCAs argue that Kinengo has disregarded the very legislators who elected him, choosing instead to impose unilateral decisions that undermine democratic principles within the assembly.

For an extended period, Kinengo has reportedly alienated both the MCAs and Kitui Governor Julius Malombe, portraying himself as an untouchable political force. His boasts of wielding the power to dissolve the entire county government have only fueled resentment among leaders, who view him as intoxicated by authority and obsessed with self-aggrandizement. Critics claim his leadership style has bred animosity, turning him into a figure of ridicule rather than respect.
The growing discontent has also spilled over to the residents of Kitui, who are rallying behind their MCAs in demanding the speaker’s removal. Locals accuse Kinengo of stalling essential service delivery, further deepening frustrations over governance. Despite Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s cautionary remarks urging him to abandon divisive politics, Kinengo has allegedly continued to operate with impunity, prompting calls for immediate action.
With mounting pressure and a united opposition against his leadership, Kinengo faces an uncertain political future. The MCAs remain resolute in their impeachment plans, asserting that removing him is the only path toward restoring accountability and effective governance in Kitui County. Whether he fights back or bows to the pressure remains to be seen, but the political storm surrounding his tenure shows no signs of calming down.
