Meru County was left astounded after a chilling attack on Pastor Stephen Kiathia of Neema Christian Church in Tigania turned into what he calls a divine miracle. Just meters from his church, armed robbers ambushed him, and a gunman fired at him. In an incredible turn of events, the bullet, destined for his life, was stopped by his Bible resting on the car dashboard. It pierced through the sacred pages near the Book of Revelation before exiting through the windscreen, leaving the pastor shaken but unharmed
.
Recounting the harrowing experience to TV47, Pastor Kiathia described how the ordeal unfolded. As he faced the gunman, a second attacker armed with a machete demanded money. In an instinctive act of self-defense, he raised his arm to shield his head, resulting in a deep cut to his hand instead. He displayed his bandaged wound as proof of his narrow escape, attributing his survival to divine intervention. The attack has since ignited widespread concern among religious leaders over the escalating violence against places of worship.
Clerics in the region lament that churches have increasingly become targets for criminals who steal equipment such as speakers and mixers. Reverend Morris Lichoro voiced his distress over the wave of break-ins and attacks, urging both national and county authorities to intervene. “We appeal to the government to enhance security and protect places of worship,” he said, echoing the growing fear among clergy. As faith leaders unite in calling for action, the pastor’s miraculous survival serves as both a testimony of faith and a chilling reminder of the dangers they face.
