Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has officially flagged off a massive KSh 120 million bursary fund aimed at supporting 28,628 students across all 40 wards in the county. The highly anticipated launch took place at Ivumbuni Primary School in Mumbuni North Ward, attracting a jubilant crowd of students, parents, education officials, and community leaders.

Speaking passionately to an electrified gathering, Governor Wavinya reaffirmed her administration’s firm focus on education as a key pillar of development. “The future of Machakos lies in the education of our children. That’s why this government will always stand by its learners,” she declared. Several schools received substantial allocations, including Mumbuni Girls (KSh 288,000), Mbee Secondary (KSh 271,000), Muumandu Secondary (KSh 246,000), Mumbuni Boys (KSh 245,000), and dozens more.
Governor Wavinya also issued a stern but compassionate plea to school heads, urging them not to send students home due to fee arrears. She encouraged them to liaise closely with the county’s education department, assuring them that any pledged bursary support would be honoured in full. “If we have promised to support a child, rest assured, we will deliver,” she said.

Accompanied by Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, the County Director of Education, and Members of the County Assembly, Governor Wavinya also announced a game-changing move — an increase in bursary allocation to KSh 200 million in future disbursements. The roaring chants of “Mama 2027” from the crowd left no doubt: Machakos residents are rallying behind a leader who puts education first and keeps her promises.
