Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti today joined fellow county leaders and ICT officials at Tom Mboya University for the launch of the “Innovate 254 Hackathon,” a high-energy, 48-hour challenge aimed at driving digital solutions for better governance.
Governor Ndeti was hosted by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, alongside Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich and Principal Secretary for ICT, Eng. John Tanui, as they officially flagged off the event under the theme *“Hacking 48 Governments in 48 Hours.”*
“This is about tapping into the creativity and talent of our youth to solve real governance challenges,” Ndeti said. “When we empower innovators, we empower counties.”

The hackathon has drawn developers, designers, data scientists, and policy experts from across the country to work on solutions that address service delivery, transparency, citizen engagement, and resource management. Teams will compete to produce functional prototypes that county governments can adopt.

Governor Wanga called the event a vital bridge between government and technology, noting that the innovations developed could set new benchmarks for public service. PS Tanui reiterated the Ministry of ICT’s support, highlighting the hackathon’s alignment with Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
The winning solutions are expected to be unveiled at the end of the 48-hour sprint, with potential for scaling across all 47 counties and beyond.
