The County Officer in charge of the Blood Transfusion Centre at Machakos Level 5 Hospital, Madam Lucy Wabosha, was arrested on Thursday, September 12, after being caught attempting to sneak out medical reagents worth nearly Ksh. 196,000.

The incident occurred at 4:23 p.m., barely a day after she had received a transfer letter linked to ongoing investigations into malpractice. According to security officers, she tried to smuggle seven boxes of ENEFY Diluent and three boxes of Lyse Solutions before being intercepted.

The move to strengthen security at the hospital is part of Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s broader reforms to safeguard public resources. Upon assuming office, she directed the installation of CCTV cameras across the facility, ensuring accountability and transparency. It was through this surveillance system that Wabosha’s actions were captured, preventing what could have been a costly loss for taxpayers.
Governor Wavinya has recently earned praise for her firm stance against graft. Just days ago, she suspended 36 county officers with immediate effect after they were found engaging in corruption and revenue theft. Her decisive leadership is being seen as a turning point in restoring integrity and public trust in county operations.

The matter has been handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and was officially booked under OB Number 73 at 8:23 p.m. Investigations are ongoing as Machakos tightens its grip on those attempting to loot public resources.
