President William Ruto’s tour of Ukambani has exploded into a major political fight after Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti strongly criticized him for saying that opposition leaders like Kalonzo Musyoka “have no brains.” The remarks angered many Ukambani residents, who said a President should unite the country, not insult leaders and provoke communities. What was supposed to be a development tour quickly turned into a storm of angry reactions.

Governor Wavinya spoke firmly and made it clear she was deeply offended by Ruto’s words. She said it was wrong and disrespectful for the President to visit Ukambani only to insult Kalonzo Musyoka, a leader many people in the region respect. Using a simple but powerful example, she said, “When you insult the father of the house and say he has no brains, you have insulted the whole family.” She added that Kalonzo would never go to Ruto’s home village of Sugoi to insult him because that would be reckless, shameful, and morally wrong.
Wavinya also explained that the Machakos county leadership chose not to join Ruto’s tour because of the insults he made earlier in Kitui and Makueni. She said they could not stand beside him in Machakos only for him to continue attacking Kalonzo and other opposition leaders. According to her, the county leadership decided they would not support a tour filled with disrespect and harsh political language.

In Machakos town, the public anger was loud and clear. Residents shouted “Ruto WANTAM!”, promising they will make sure he does not get re-elected in 2027. Videos of the angry crowd have already spread online, sending a strong message across the country that the Kamba community is tired of insults and will not accept disrespect towards Kalonzo Musyoka. Locals praised Governor Wavinya and her team for staying away from Ruto’s tour, saying they had expected development, not insults, from a presidential visit.
