Deputy Minority Leader and Kathiani Member of Parliament, Robert Mbui, has weighed in on the recent silence of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, attributing it to a potential sidelining in the upcoming election cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mbui posits that Gachagua’s retreat from the political forefront is a consequence of accumulating events that diminish his political sway within the nation. Among these events, Mbui highlights President William Ruto’s insinuation towards selecting a female running mate, underscoring his dedication to uphold the two-thirds gender rule within his administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“After he made those remarks and received enthusiastic applause from women, he hastily added ‘Now after we discuss this with the DP,’ inadvertently implying he is considering alternative running mates,” remarked Mbui. “This is one of the factors Gachagua has likely observed, suggesting he might not feature as Ruto’s running mate in the future.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mbui further notes a decline in Gachagua’s popularity within the Mt. Kenya region, pointing to emerging, more charismatic, and youthful leaders who have captured the populace’s attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There’s a cadre of young parliamentarians making significant strides and garnering more popularity than the DP in certain parts of central Kenya,” he asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These assertions unfold amidst speculation of discord between DP Gachagua and President Ruto, a rift that has prompted Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga to interject, vehemently affirming the region’s support for Gachagua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Gachagua wasn’t appointed to his position; he was elected like any other leader and merits respect,” Governor Kahiga declared. “Disparaging Gachagua equates to disparaging the mountain, and vice versa. To those sowing discord between the president and his deputy, we caution you.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gachagua, breaking his week-long absence from public view, resurfaced on Sunday during a church service in Endarasha, Nyeri County.”Disrespect to Gachagua is disrespect to the mountain, and vice versa.
