Kitui South’s Gen Z population took to the streets of Mutomo town in a show of anger and frustration over their MP Rachel Kaki’s support for the controversial Kenya Finance Bill 2024. The protest, which saw a significant turnout of young people, culminated in a march to the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) office, where tensions nearly escalated to violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protestors attempted to set fire to the CDF office, but their efforts were thwarted by police intervention. According to reports, Hon. Rachel Kaki allegedly hired individuals from Emali to disrupt the otherwise peaceful demonstration. However, these alleged agitators were quickly identified by the demonstrators and faced a hostile reception before being rescued by the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chants of “Kaki must go” filled the air as the protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with their MP’s recent vote. Many participants vowed to ensure Kaki is ousted in the 2027 general elections. Among those present was Cyrus Musyoka, the youthful MCA of Ikanga\/Kyatune ward, also known as Sonko. His appearance was met with enthusiasm, with the crowd showing strong support for him as a potential replacement for Rachel Kaki in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musyoka, a popular figure among the youth, is seen as a promising candidate who could potentially challenge Kaki’s seat in 2027.
