five individuals arrested today in Kitui town on suspicion of masquerading as officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The suspects attempted to apprehend a revenue officer from the Kitui County Government under false pretenses, alleging they had evidence of her involvement in corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group reportedly arrested the revenue officer in her office and escorted her to her home, claiming she had millions of shillings in ill-gotten gains stored there. Their suspicious behavior raised doubts about their authenticity, prompting the officer to alert local authorities. Police from the Kitui Town Police Station responded swiftly to the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon arrival at the officer\u2019s residence, police found the suspects had locked themselves inside the house. Forced to break in, the officers discovered the five individuals were impostors, aiming to extort money from county officials. No such millions were found at the scene. The suspects were arrested and are currently being held at the Kitui Town Police Station awaiting court proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kitui Times investigative team has identified four of the five suspects. Among them is the well-known Kamba Benga artist and leader of the Kalandini Boys Band, Kyalo Kasee. Two brothers from the Itoleka area in Kitui Central Constituency namely Kakai Kalusi (also known as Shamargat) and his brother Kasamba Kalusi, were also apprehended. The gang included an unnamed woman alleged to be a police officer and another unidentified man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group is suspected of having extorted money from unsuspecting members of the public by posing as EACC officers. Following the arrests, Kitui County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance, Peter Kilonzo, addressed the media, urging any victims of the gang\u2019s fraudulent activities to come forward and file complaints with the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kilonzo reassured the public that Kitui County’s resources and funds are secure under Governor Julius Malombe\u2019s administration.
