Kitui County’s Department of Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports, and Social Services, led by CECM Phoebe Mutemi, convened a meeting today with youth representatives and members of the media at the Agricultural Training Center in Kitui town. The gathering focused on planning and preparations for the upcoming Kitui County Youth Engagement Forum, set to take place on November 15, 2024, at the Kitui Showground.<\/p>\n

The forum aims to bring together young people from across Kitui\u2019s 247 villages, providing a unique platform for open dialogue and collaboration. Youth attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, discussing the challenges they face and exploring ways the county government can support them in achieving their aspirations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Executive felt it was essential to gather Kitui\u2019s youth, to understand the obstacles they encounter, and to see how the government can play a role in helping them overcome these barriers,\u201d CECM Mutemi stated. The forum\u2019s theme, *”Appreciating Our Individual and Shared Responsibilities in Shaping the Future,”* reflects the county\u2019s commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where young people can contribute to and benefit from local development.<\/p>\n

Each village in Kitui will be represented by four youths, selected through a thorough vetting process to ensure a diverse and comprehensive representation. The criteria focus on inclusivity, prioritizing self-employed youth, those with academic credentials such as a degree or diploma, and young community leaders. This selection approach seeks to capture a broad range of perspectives, making certain that youth from all backgrounds have a voice in shaping the county\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

The forum will not only provide networking opportunities but will also feature an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to pose questions to the Governor and other county officials. Key guest speakers, including notable leaders in business and social entrepreneurship, are expected to share insights on achieving financial independence and creating sustainable livelihoods.<\/p>\n

Attending today\u2019s preparatory meeting were Chief Officer for Youth, Sports, ICT, and Initiatives Nelson Kang’alya, and Chief Officer for the Bodaboda Sector Peter Ketonya Musya, who emphasized the county\u2019s commitment to youth empowerment as a cornerstone of its broader development agenda.<\/p>\n
