The Committee on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide today took a strategic step in its national mandate by meeting with Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe ahead of a public participation forum in Kitui Town. The courtesy call, led by Vice Chairperson Dr. Sam Thenya, emphasized the government\u2019s multi-stakeholder approach to tackling GBV and femicide through inclusive and actionable consultations.<\/p>\n

Appointed by the President in January 2025, the Technical Working Group has embarked on a series of national forums aimed at gathering perspectives to shape a robust policy response. Kitui, known for its proactive civil society networks, was a deliberate and timely stop in the committee\u2019s outreach calendar.<\/p>\n

The public forum attracted more than 200 participants, representing a cross-section of the community. Contributors highlighted gaps in law enforcement, lack of survivor support services, and the pressing need for education on gender rights at the grassroots level. These insights will inform the committee\u2019s final recommendations to government.<\/p>\n

The Kitui engagement is a microcosm of a broader policy realignment underway\u2014one that centers community engagement, evidence-based solutions, and government accountability.
