In her speech, she paid glowing tribute to what she termed “our noblest profession,” recognizing the tireless dedication, compassion, and professionalism that nurses exhibit daily. The governor emphasized that nurses are not only caregivers but the essential link between patients and physicians, often bearing the emotional and physical weight of the healthcare system. She applauded their efforts during times of crisis, including the COVID-19 pandemic, for rising to the challenge and saving lives even when resources were stretched thin.

While celebrating their dedication, Governor Ndeti also emphasized that appreciation must go beyond words and ceremonies. “Real honor lies in actions, in investments and reforms,” she said, as she laid out her administration’s tangible strides in transforming healthcare delivery across Machakos County. Central to this transformation is infrastructure: her government has built over 20 new healthcare facilities, including 18 Level 2 hospitals, to expand access to primary care. She also spotlighted flagship projects like the Muindi Mbingu Specialty Hospital and new Level 4 hospitals in Mavoko, Masii, and Syokimau, along with the upcoming upgrade of Matuu Hospital to Level 5 to reduce congestion at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

Governor Ndeti also detailed advancements in healthcare management systems and staffing reforms. The county has rolled out the AFIA ONE digital system in all public facilities to enhance patient care and reduce administrative burdens for health workers. She announced the recruitment of 208 nurses since taking office and confirmed the promotion of over 200 long-serving nurses, with another promotion round expected in July. These moves, she stressed, are part of a broader push for equitable staffing, especially in underserved rural regions, and to motivate health professionals with fair career progression.

<img
