Addressing worshippers during a powerful Sunday service at AIC Baraka Kasinga in Mumbuni North Ward, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti tore into a group of political figures she accused of staging a calculated effort to undermine devolution in the county. In a rare and emotionally charged speech, Ndeti named former Governor Alfred Mutua, MPs Patrick Makau, Vincent Musyoka, Caleb Mule, and Speaker Anne Kiusya as the orchestrators of what she described as a plan to destabilize her administration. \u201cMachakos will not be held hostage by political spoilers,\u201d she declared. \u201cI will not be intimidated into silence while the people suffer.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The governor revealed a painful betrayal\u2014how she personally championed Kiusya\u2019s rise to speakership within the County Assembly, lobbying Wiper Party leadership and calming stormy political waters to avoid her impeachment last year. Yet, Wavinya now says that Kiusya has turned against both the party and the people of Machakos, colluding with what she called \u201cenemies of development\u201d to frustrate governance. \u201cThis is the second time MCAs are seeking her removal. The problem is not the Governor\u2014it\u2019s the Speaker,\u201dWavinya affirmed, rejecting any claims that she was engineering political wrangles behind the scenes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Her criticism extended to the national government, where she accused unnamed actors in President Ruto\u2019s orbit of shielding those destabilizing Machakos, including the use of police to intimidate and even attack MCAs. Wavinya cautioned the President to rise above local political squabbles and cease being used as a cover by what she termed \u201cpolitical scavengers.\u201d In a bold rebuke, she said, \u201cMr. President, you and I were both elected. But the people you are using to interfere in Machakos do not carry your stature. Stop shaming the presidency by sheltering petty politics.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wavinya concluded with a passionate defense of her administration\u2019s commitment to the people, revealing that over KES 60 million in women empowerment programs had been frozen due to legislative gridlock caused by the current assembly leadership. She called on Speaker Kiusya to either step up or step aside. \u201cThe Assembly is not a private house. It belongs to the people,\u201dshe said.
