Kelvin Kinengo Katisya, the self-proclaimed untouchable Speaker who mocked MCAs as powerless, has been slapped with an impeachment notice that has shattered his pride. The charges are damning — violation of the Constitution, violation of other laws, incompetence, and abuse of office. It is a devastating cocktail that leaves Kinengo cornered with nowhere to run, as his loud boasts and bravado are now drowned out by legal precision and political fury.

Kinengo’s sins go beyond arrogance. He has repeatedly abused his powers by openly defying his own party, Wiper, which enjoys majority control in the Assembly. Despite official communication from the party leadership changing the Majority Leader and Majority Whip, Kinengo deliberately failed to effect the changes and instead maintained his cronies in those positions. In doing so, he not only undermined the authority of Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka — the very man who made him Speaker — but also spat on the face of party democracy. To add insult to injury, Kinengo and Machakos Speaker Anne Kiusya have been making frequent pilgrimages to State House, dragging along a faction of MCAs in a divisive scheme seen as an attempt to weaken Kalonzo’s Ukambani stronghold. Kinengo even resorted to using courts to shield the ousted Majority leadership, bragging that as a lawyer, “nobody can touch him.” But today, his long run has slammed into a brick wall.

Side by side with Machakos’ Anne Kiusya, Kinengo now stands as a symbol of fallen pride and broken trust. The two Speakers who betrayed their Houses are staring at political annihilation. Their once-powerful seats have turned into electric chairs of accountability, and their exit from office is no longer a question of if, but when.

September 23rd marked a political earthquake in Kitui County Assembly.
