Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration\u2019s commitment to supporting farmers as she launched the distribution of certified seeds to farmers across Machakos County. Speaking during the launch held today at Kathaana in Kangundo West Ward, the Governor said the initiative is about taking practical action to ensure food is available on household tables while increasing farmers\u2019 incomes.<\/p>\n

Governor Ndeti announced that a total of 74.9 tonnes of certified seeds will be distributed to 37,450 farmers countywide. She emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of livelihoods in Machakos, noting that the well-being of the county is directly tied to the success of its farmers. \u201cIf the farmer is happy, the county is happy,\u201d she said, adding that her government is working tirelessly to uplift the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

She explained that the certified seeds being distributed are a critical input in agricultural production due to their ability to deliver higher yields, better-quality produce, and improved resistance to pests and diseases. To maximize the impact of the program, the county mapped climate and soil conditions to guide seed allocation, with maize and beans earmarked for high-rainfall areas, while cowpeas and pigeon peas will be distributed in drier zones.<\/p>\n

Beyond seeds, Governor Ndeti highlighted additional support measures aimed at boosting productivity. She revealed that 200,000 farmers have already been registered to benefit from subsidized fertilizer and stressed the importance of expert agricultural advice. In the livestock sector, she noted that the cost of artificial insemination has been drastically reduced from KSh 3,000 to KSh 200, a move expected to lower production costs and improve livestock quality across the county.<\/p>\n
