Through a groundbreaking move that reaffirms Kitui County’s commitment to public health, Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s administration has delivered a lifesaving consignment of essential medical supplies valued at Sh33 million. The shipment, channeled through the Ministry of Health, is being hailed as a transformative intervention aimed at breathing new life into the county’s healthcare system. The Kitui County Referral Hospital, alongside 13 other major facilities, began receiving their allocations early this morning, with plans to roll out the distribution to all 311 public health facilities across the county over the next two weeks.
This massive consignment includes an extensive array of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical items, meticulously curated to restore dwindling stocks and bridge critical gaps in service delivery. Residents of Kitui can now look forward to a future where access to quality healthcare is not a privilege but a right within reach. The medicines and consumables are expected to fortify the delivery of frontline services, offering a timely reprieve for both medical staff and patients who have long grappled with shortages.
Addressing the press during the official handover, County Executive Committee Member for Health and Sanitation, Madam Ruth Koki, underscored the strategic importance of the restock. Accompanied by Chief Officer for Drugs and Medical Supplies, Aggrey Kamba, she noted that the delivery marks a turning point in the county’s quest to stabilize and sustain healthcare systems. “This consignment is a major step toward stabilizing the supply of medical essentials across our facilities,” Koki stated, adding that a targeted push will soon bring specialized drugs and consumables to critical units like the ICU, Renal Unit, Cancer Center, and Radiology Department.
