Today, the second cohort recruitment of youth into the Machakos Youth Service (MYS) was conducted across all 40 wards of Machakos County. Thousands of young people turned out to seize this opportunity, which will see them undergo intensive technical training in fields such as plumbing, cosmetics and beauty therapy, carpentry, electrical wiring, motor vehicle engineering, catering, and many other marketable courses.

This transformative initiative championed by Governor Wavinya Ndeti aims to empower Machakos youth with the skills and knowledge needed to become self-sufficient and economically independent. In this second cohort, 4,500 young people will be absorbed: 1,500 into the Machakos Youth Service and another 3,000 into digital skills, bodaboda riders and motor vehicle training.
Today’s recruitment witnessed an overwhelming turnout in every ward, with the exercise conducted transparently at the sub-location level. Village administrators, ward admins,sub-county admins ,assistant chiefs, chiefs, and village elders collaborated closely to ensure a fair, credible, and community-centered selection process that prioritizes the youth of Machakos County.

Tomorrow, recruitment will continue across all 40 wards for digital training, boda boda riders and motor vehicle training programs.
Attendees across the county expressed deep appreciation for the openness of the process and commended Governor Wavinya Ndeti for her unwavering commitment to uplifting and empowering young people.
The exercise was supervised by county government officials representing the governor, including County Secretary Dr. Muya Ndambuki, who coordinated activities across all sub-counties. CECMs, Chief Officers, Directors, and ward administrators worked hand-in-hand to ensure the process was fair, transparent, and that all recruits were given equal opportunity.
