Across Machakos, many residents and community leaders continue to reflect on former Governor Alfred Mutua’s legacy, saying it was marked more by publicity stunts than real development. A striking example is the “All Homes With Showers” project — widely promoted at the time — which never delivered a single installed shower, leaving residents feeling misled and disappointed.

Youth groups also recall being mobilized in their thousands at People’s Park for promised job opportunities that never materialized. Many young people believe they were used for political optics rather than empowered with real employment. In contrast, Governor Wavinya Ndeti has recently equipped over 1,000 youth with start-up tools under the Machakos Youth Service — a clear example of action-based leadership, not empty promises.

Residents further argue that Mutua’s development initiatives often favored politically loyal regions, leaving many areas sidelined. Concerns about governance during his era remain strong. Parents and students say bursaries were distributed without transparency, unlike the open disbursement of KSh 80 million and 120 million under the current administration led by governor wavinya Ndeti.

Health workers and residents also question past procurement decisions, including second-hand ambulances that deteriorated quickly where if mutua could have postponed his thirsty of corruption and purchased new Toyota land cruisers ambulances right now they could be in good condition and giving service to the people. Some residents still express discomfort over the collection of ID numbers during “water mapping,” later believed to have been linked to his political registration of maendeleo chap Chap . Even roads tarmacked during that period, such as Makutano–Mwala–Kithimani and Kathiani–Kangundo, have crumbled, highlighting neglect in durability, poor quality and accountability.
As Mutua and his allies campaign in Mumbuni North ahead of the by-election, many locals view their presence with caution. Critics argue that leaders associated with massive pending county bills left by Mutua’s regime of over Sh4 billion — should not influence the ward’s future. For residents, this election is about protecting Machakos from a return to leadership practices that held the county back.

A growing number of residents are uniting behind Antony Kisoi, seeing him as a candidate who embodies integrity, stability, and genuine commitment to Mumbuni North. His candidacy aligns with a broader regional push to strengthen Ukambani unity under Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 elections.

Supporting Wiper is not just about party loyalty — it is a stand for clean, transparent governance, prudent use of public resources, and leadership that puts the people first. Governor Wavinya’s administration has shown this approach in action, and residents want it extended to every ward.
It’s time to choose progress over the past.
It’s time to choose leadership that delivers, not leadership that disappoints.
On election day, Mumbuni North must stand for accountability, unity, and development that lasts.
