Governor Wavinya Ndeti has once again demonstrated bold, people-centered leadership after her administration, in partnership with the Center for Enterprise Development and Innovation (CEDI), rolled out 864 modern solar-powered water purifiers to young mothers across Machakos County. This transformative initiative is a clear reflection of a governor who understands that real development begins at the household level, where access to clean and safe water directly translates to healthier families and stronger communities.

The program targets young mothers in all the 40 wards of Machakos County, with at least 20 mothers benefiting per ward. Priority has been given to mothers with children below the age of five, a group most vulnerable to waterborne diseases caused by contaminated water. By introducing solar-powered water purification technology, Governor Wavinya’s administration is not only safeguarding the health of children but also empowering mothers with a sustainable, cost-effective solution that guarantees clean drinking water every day.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the County Government of Machakos and CEDI further cements Governor Wavinya’s commitment to long-term solutions. Addressing the beneficiaries, the governor urged them to make good use of the purifiers, emphasizing that prevention is better and cheaper than cure. She noted that the initiative will save families money previously spent on treating preventable illnesses and ensure children remain healthy and consistent in school. In a further show of her holistic approach to child welfare, Governor Wavinya assured mothers that her government will ensure milk and food supplies to all public ECDE centers as schools reopen next year, strengthening the county’s free feeding program.
This landmark move comes just hours after Mizani Afrika ranked Governor Wavinya Ndeti as the second best performing governor in Kenya—an accolade that now feels fully deserved. From healthcare to education and social protection, her administration continues to set the pace in service delivery. Indeed, Governor Wavinya is not joking when it comes to transforming lives and delivering tangible results for the people of Machakos County.
